Herbert H. Baker, 88, Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Galveston, died at 1 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Home in Port Charlotte, Fla. He was born Jan. 9, 1924, in Logansport to Delbert Luane and Bertha Louise (Schaen) Baker. He was married in June, 1945, to Marjorie (Hiatt) Baker, who preceded in him death in January 2004.
He was owner of Kokomo Comparative Chart Services Inc. He was a graduate of Logansport High School in 1943 and attended Utah University and Wheaten College in Illinois.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Galveston, and Central Baptist Church, Ocala, Fla. Herb was a perfectionist with his garden. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
Surviving are his sisters, Martha L. Hosier, Cape Coral, Fla., Marolyn Gale, Logansport, and Maxine Gale, Cape Coral, Fa.; and six nephews, six nieces, four grandnephews, six grandnieces, 18 great-nephews; and great-nieces. Herb was especially close to his great-great-niece, Kiara Morrill, age 9, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Mary Burdge, and mother-in-law, Nell Jordan.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Murray-Weaver Funeral Home, Galveston, with the Rev. Warren K. Purcell officiating. Burial will be in Galveston Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
