OBITUARY:

Ruby Day Rolfe of Wilton passed away at home on April 6, 2011 at the age of 95. Born in Bethel, Maine on November 15, 1915, she lived in Locke Mills with her parents, Charles Peter and Dollie May (Buck) Day until she graduated from Woodstock High School in 1933. Ruby married Clarence Rolfe on November 25, 1933 and lived in West Bethel or Bethel for over 60 years before moving to Wilton in 1995 to be closer to her son.

During her time in the Bethel area she was a stay-at-home Mom while her children were young and then in the mid 1950's she opened a shoe store which evolved into a successful women's clothing store on Main St. in Bethel. The store was sold in 1975. After her retirement she and her husband wintered in Florida for several years enjoying the seasonal escape from the harsh Maine winters. She also enjoyed going on recreational retreats, especially with her family, in the summers throughout her life.

Ruby was known and loved by many for her compassion, generosity, and willingness to help others. She was an excellent cook and seamstress and enjoyed knitting, card playing, and beano. Her family was the focus of her life.

Ruby is survived by her daughter, Patricia Newman of Danvers, MA; her son Eldred Rolfe and his wife Rosalie of Wilton; her grandchildren Tami Cronin and husband Rick of Peabody, MA, Philip Bartlett and his wife Sharon of Huntinton, NY, Theo Bartlett and Scott Ericson of Greenville, NH, Amy Bullen and her husband Todd of New Sharon, and Rebecca Marden and her husband Vernon of Wilton. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, Kelly Stephens, Patrick Manning, Stephanie Manning, Kimberly Cronin, Amando Cronin, Kaitlyn Bullen, Meghan Bullen, Mackenzie Bartlett and Jarrod Bartlett, as well as 2 great great grandchildren, Ava Cronin and Leah Paradis.

Ruby was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, a brother Charlie Day and his wife Grace, and all other close relatives of her generation. She also lost a son-in-law Earl Newman in 2002.

Ruby will be greatly missed by her family and her long-time and recently acquired friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Armand Auger for his knowledge, diligence, and compassion in caring for Ruby and extending the length and quality of her life.

A Memorial Service will be held at the West Bethel Union church on May 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. immediately followed by refreshments and interment at the Pinegrove Cemetery in West Bethel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ruby's memory to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, Hospice Division, 15 Strawberry Ave., P.O. Box 819, Lewiston, Maine 04243-0819.
