Rock Musician. He was the keyboardist for the legendary rock group, 'The Grateful Dead,' from 1991 to 1995. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, he began playing music at an early age. Welnick who replaced Brent Mydland as the group's keyboardist also had stints with musicians such as The Tubes, Todd Rundgren, Ratdog, and Missing Man Formation. He was also a noted solo artist. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, Welnick left the group following the 1995 death of lead singer Jerry Garcia.
