---W. R. "Bob" Allen, 50, of near Elmer, was killed about 7:00 Saturday morning when the truck he was driving collided with a Norfolk and Western train at the Moore Street Crossing in La Plata. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Laughlin Hospital in Kirksville.
---The train, engineered by O.B. Miller, Sr. of Moberly, was northbound and Allen was traveling east.
---Mr. Allen was born September 30, 1916 in Elmer, the son of Jimmie and Sarah (Belle) Allen.
---He was married February 2, 1942 in Kirksville to Ruby Krawl. Mrs. Allen survives.
---Also surviving are one daughter, Vickie, of Ottumwa, Iowa; his father, Jimmie Allen, of Atlanta; three brothers, Virgil of Elmer, Clifford of Clarence and Norman of Atlanta; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Agee of Kirksville and Mrs. Bill (Coleen) Huggins of Holden.
---He was preceded in death by his mother, May 19, 1965, one brother and one sister.
---A member of the Elmer Christian Church, he was an elder in the church. He was a World War II Veteran, serving 4 years. One year in Germany and France. He was presently engaged in farming south of Elmer.
---Funeral services were held Monday in the Elmer Christian Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clyde McCollum officiating. Burial was in the Elmer Cemetery.
