C. Melvin "Mel" Budd, age 79, of Golden City, Mo., formerly of Jasper, Mo., passed away at 3:07 a.m. Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Freeman East Hospital, Joplin.

He was born Aug. 10, 1925, in Barton County, Mo., to Claude Craig and Lula Maude (Pfander) Budd. He lived most of his life in Jasper. He was a retired farmer and truck driver. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Golden City, a member of the Jasper V.F.W. Post No. 6415. He was a supporter of the NRA. His hobbies included reading, going to auctions, fishing and collecting John Deere tractors. He served in the Army 6th Infantry Division of World War II.

He was united in marriage to Doris Crank on May 25, 1947, in Columbus, Kan. She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2003. He was then united in marriage to Claude Dean McDonald on Sept. 25, 2004, in Golden City, Mo. She survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Ronald Dean Budd, Jasper, James "Jim" Melvin Budd, Rogersville, Mo.; six daughters, Glenda Sue Taylor, Cunningham, Kan., Donna Kaye Osterdyk, Jasper, Mo., Gloria Jeanette Beeman, Humboldt, Kan., Kathleen Carter, Jasper, Mo., Loretta Lea Bowerman, Halltown, Mo., and Melissa Lynn Carter, Jasper; one stepson, Darrel McDonald, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Jacque Ball, Jasper, Patty Baugh, Carthage; one sisters, Edith Arnold, Jasper; 32 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jodie Osterdyk.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper. Burial will be in Waters Cemetery, northwest of Jasper. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor?s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Weng Funeral Home, Jasper.

Services of Mel Budd of Golden City, Mo. who died Sunday, June 12, 2005 were held Thursday, June 16, 2005 at Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper. The minister John Steele officiate.

Mary Probert was the organist. Veronica Budd sang "Amazing Grace." The congregation sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder."

Pallbearers were Wesley Budd, Jason Bowerman, Tom Ball, Troy Osterdyk, Derek and Ken Barbar.
Honorary pallbearers were Carl Arft, Elmer Osterdyk, Colgan Barlow, Emil Osterdyk, Loyal Berryhill, Dick Pope, Robert Gregg, Lon Tidball and Robert Mevius.

Burial was held in Waters Cemetery, Barton County, Mo. with the grandchildren and their friends singing "Ill Fly Away" and "Shall We Gather At The River." Military rites were held by the Jasper VFW Post # 6415.
Arrangements were with Weng Fueral Chapel, Jasper.
