---First Lieutenant Richard Noel Baitty, age 87, of Queen City, Missouri passed away Tuesday February 8, 2000 in the Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri where he had been a patient one week.
---The son of Fred and Leona Lind Baitty he was born in Queen City, Missouri on November 6, 1911.
---On June 27, 1941 at Helena, Montana he was united in marriage to Doris Beatrice Crawford of La Plata, Missouri. On their honeymoon they bummed a freight train and went to every state in the United States, worked in every capital city and even ate in the Hobo Jungles. Noel said "this is living."
---Surviving are his wife Doris of Queen City, Missouri, one sister, Mary Piper of Queen City, Missouri and several nieces and nephews, also special friends, Ralph and Carolyn Jones of Lancaster, Missouri, Denise Anders and daughters, Megan, Heather and Kimberly of Lancaster, Missouri, Floyd and Daisy Manning of Lancaster, Missouri, and Paul and Mable VanMeter of Queen City, Missouri.
---He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Caroline Gosser and one brother, Lind Baitty.
---Noel attended Schuyler County Schools until his junior year then moved to Kirksville and graduated from the Kirksville High School Class of 1932.
---Following graduation, he joined the National Guard Company K, 138 Infantry Division for seven years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and went to Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia where he graduated fifth in his class and was commissioned as Second Lieutenant. Mr. Baitty then received his Bars and went oversees and made it through Pearl Harbor on the ship Santa Cruz.
---He served on the islands of Hawaii, Eniwick, Layte, Japan, and Cebu when they dropped the Atomic Bomb.
---During the occupation of Japan he served one year on the islands of Sappora and Hokiato as a Military Police Prison Officer of the Ninth Corps stockade.
---He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4958 of Memphis, Missouri, Loyal Order of the Moose of Kirksville, Missouri, Odd Fellows, Past Grand of Downing, Missouri, Rebekah Lodge of Downing, Missouri, and the American Legion of Lancaster, Missouri.
---Noel owned and operated his own airplane, an Aeronautics Chief. He owned and operated an 85 acre Dairy farm North of Kirksville.
---He was a member of the Downing Christian Church, and was a state service officer for the V.F.W.
---Graveside services were held Thursday February 10, 2000 at 1:00 in the Veterans Garden Of Honor in Park Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, Missouri.
---The Reverend Larry Smith officiated the services.
---Military Rites were held at the graveside by V.F.W. Post 4958 of Memphis, Missouri.
---There was no visitation, the Hudson-Rimer Park View Funeral chapel in Kirksville were in charge of the services.
---Casket bearers were members of the V.F.W. Post 4958 of Memphis, Missouri.
