America E. Thornsberry is the daughter of Mathew & Elizabeth Thornsberry.

Apparently when America's stone was made her last name was mis-spelled. On her stone they left out the 's'. The stone says 'Thornberry'.

America has a sister named Sarah Thornsberry. Sarah married Francis Marion Kendrick. Francis served in the Confederate Cavalry from Arkansas. Their son, Oscar Frederick Kendrick served in World War I.

Little America has a long line of relatives that fought for the country for which she was named. What a legacy for such a little one.

This gravestone struck me as being very heart-rending... note the broken stem of the rose, as if to say she had no chance to 'bloom'.
