Singer, Songwriter. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was best remembered for being a bass singer in the Motown group "The Originals". He began his career as a teenager when he joined Sax Kari and the "Quailtones" and co-wrote "Tears of Love", their only single in 1955. He then formed the "Fidelitones" with Brian Holland, met future music mogul Berry Gordy, signed with Motown Records, and released the single "The Day Will Come" in 1961. "The Originals" in the 1960s and hit songs that included "We've Got a Way Out of Love", "Green Grow the Lilacs" and the original version of "Please, Mr. Postman", which became a successful single for the "The Marvelettes" and "The Beatles". He also wrote or co-wrote songs for Motown to include "Goodnight Irene", "We've Got a Way Out of Love", "In a Bad Way", "Just Like Romeo and Juliet" and "Green Grow the Lilacs".
