Daniel was born February 9, 1844 in Ralls, County, Missouri the son of John Henry and Elizabeth (Roark) Epperson. Daniel B. joined Company B., 4th Regiment of the Missouri State Militia Voluntary Cavalry on February 19, 1862 and served in the Union Army until March 25, 1865. He then joined his father in Macon County where he farmed, taught school and later became a minister of the Missionary Baptist church. He pastored the Sue City Church for twelve years until he retired in 1910 due to ill health. He died January 19, 1919 near Elmer and was buried in the Elmer Cemetery. On June 17, 1868 in Macon County, Daniel B. Epperson married Malinda Martha Kent, the daughter of Shiveral Garner and Elizabeth (Rogers) Kent, from Ohio and Missouri respectfully. Malinda was born February 5, 1847 in Adair County and died July 7, 1939 and was buried in the Elmer cemetery. They were the parents of nine children: Elizabeth, who died in infancy in Nebraska, John Henry, Jeanette Catherine, William J., Shirval Thomas, Walter Sherman, Richard Edward, Leona Ethel and Maggie Mable Epperson.
