---Samuel Dennis, retired farmer of Elmer, died in a Kirksville Hospital Wednesday, November 1, at 8:15 a.m.
---Funeral services were held on Friday at the Elmer Baptist Church with D. A. Drake officiating. Burial was in the Elmer Cemetery. The American Legion of La Plata officiated with final rites at the cemetery.
---He was born in Macon County October 5, 1887, being at the time of death seventy-four years and twenty-seven days of age. He was the son of Joel and Abegail (Baldwin) Dennis.
---He was married to Ora Hawkins December 22, 1909 and to this union three children were born, twins dying in infancy and a three-year-old girl who was burned to death. His wife preceded him in death in 1927. Also preceding him in death were two brothers and one sister.
---He later married to Mae McCollum who also preceded him in death.
---Later he was married to Eva Walker, January 10, 1948. Surviving are his wife; two sisters, Hattie Richardson of Houston and Florence Allen of Galesburg, Illinois; one brother, John Dennis of Mammouth, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
---He lived in and around Elmer his entire life. He served in the First World War with Company F 20th Infantry 10th Division.
