Dorothy was a Red Cross nurse in World War I and served in a front line hospital at Chateau Thierry (northeast of Paris) where some of the worst fighting took place in the Argonne. She was a public health nurse in Albany NY for some years before the war. After her return she worked in public health again in Albany NY and also in St. Louis MO. She married later in life (about age 40) Rev. Ward McKim Baker, a widower with 2 grown children. They had one son born in 1925. In the 1930-40's she operated a nursing home in Lockport NY (along the Erie Canal near Buffalo NY). In 1949 she returned to Europe and France. Sometime after that trip she moved west with her son to California.
