Lloyd was a Fighter Pilot for the Army Air Corps enlisting on 18 May 1943. He was shot down and captured by the Germans and was a POW from: May 11, 1944 to Apri 29, 1945.

"Lloyd Melvin Bruce, 78, of LaPlata, died Tuesday, Apri 3, 2001 in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico.

"Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. tuesday at the LaPlata Community Presbyterian Church. Arrangemetns are under the direction of the Travis Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Bruce has been cremated and will be interred at a later date.

"Lloyd was born on Aug. 20, 1922 in LaPlata, the son of Ira and Valma (Ross) Bruce. He married, Maria Palacio, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 7, 1983 in Camdenton, he married Jean (Begole) Wares.

"Lloyd is survived by his wife, Jean; one son, John Bruce of Napa, Calif.; one daughter, Linda Stuart of Windsor, Calif; three step-daughters, Pam Wares of Marshal, Pat Steele of Cameron, and Penny McDowell of Grand Cayman Islands; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven step-grandchildren; and one foster sister.

"Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife."
