Edna P. Cooley (February 26, 1909 - October 19, 2009)
Graveside services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, at Woodbine Cemetery for Edna P. Cooley of Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Cooley, 100, died Monday, October 19, 2009 at her daughter's home in Artesia.
Michael Joiner and Don Speir will officiate at the services. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Mrs. Cooley was born February 26, 1909 in Aspermont, Texas; the daughter of James T. Pinson and Sarah (Wallace) Pinson.
On Sept. 26, 1929 she was married to John C. Cooley in Walters, Oklahoma. They came to Artesia in 1932. In 1933 they moved to Wichita Falls. Then in 1936 they moved back to Artesia and she has been a resident since. He preceded her in death December 20, 1978.
She was also preceded in death by a son, six brothers, and two sisters. Edna was a homemaker. She loved to quilt, work in the garden, and spend time with children.
Survivors include her daughter Martha Speir of Artesia; brother Frankie C. Pinson of Artesia; grandchildren Don Speir and wife Tajuana of Midland, Texas, John P. Speir of Lubbock, Texas, Toni Blackburn and husband Don of Lawton, Oklahoma, Ronnie Speir of Lawton, and Lonnie Speir and wife Bonnie of Atlanta, Georgia; 17 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
