Connecticut Governor. Immigrated to America, with parents in 1925, he later worked in the textile industry in Putnam, Connecticut. He was on the Putnam City Council (1938-49), Mayor of Putnam for six terms, a member if the Connecticut General Assembly, (1949-55), executive aide to the governor, (1955-59) and Lieutenant Governor, (1959-61). In 1961, he was elected as a Democrat the 81st Governor of Connecticut, serving until 1971. While in office, he served on the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations and introduced the Legislative Management Act to establish an operating budget of the Assembly. After his term, He worked briefly as a consultant on environmental matters to the Southern New England Telephone Company and remained active in Connecticut State politics. He died of cancer at age 74.
