(from an old newspaper clipping, identity of paper unknown)

Willis Kennedy Hackett, 90, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of the Still Pond area, died suddenly at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. Kennard Jones on Saturday last January 25th in Still Pond. He was a life-long resident of that area, and its oldest male resident.

In spite of the fact that he lost his eyesight in early manhood, he became one of Kent County's outstanding businessmen and retired at the age of 75 years after thirty years in the canning business. He, with his son Laurie D.Hackett, owned and operated the canning business of W.K.Hackett & Son - Eastern Shore Brand.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, a daughter, Mrs. Alice Hackett Coleman, and a son, Laurie D. Hackett. He is survived by one son and three daughters - Willis Claude Hackett, Mrs. Clarence W. Ford, Mrs. E. Kennard Jones, and Edna Hackett Oliphant. Six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held at the Victor Kennedy Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Robert S. Hodgson, of the Still Pond Methodist Church. Richard McCaslin (my father) sang "Sunrise" a favorite hymn of the deceased as requested before his death.

Interment was in the Still Pond Cemetery.

Many hugs and thanks to God's Special Angel for sponsoring my great-grandfather's memorial!
