Vol .3 4 No.37

At his home in Ste. Genevieve at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 1915, Gallus Lurk, at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 7 days. The funeral took place on Wednesday morning after a requiem mass at the Catholic Church, to the Valle Spring cemetery.

The deceased had suffered for several years with tumor of the bladder and had always attended to his duties when his health permitted, but the past six weeks or so his condition became worse and he was confined to his home.

Mr. Lurk was born in Baden, Germany, on October 16th, 1843. While still very young his parents died and he was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Otte who later came to America, locating in Jackson Township, this county, when their adopted son was nine years of age. In January, 1875 he was married to Miss Gertrude (Wipfler) Lurk daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wipfler. To this union were born six children, one of whom died in infancy, while five sons survive with their mother to mourn the death of a loving husband and father. They are August, Anthony, Frank, Joseph, and William Lurk, all of whom reside in this city.

Mr. Lurk was a good man, worked hard as a farmer all of his life and experienced many hardships during his early years. He enjoyed the respect of a large circle of friends whose sympathy goes out to the family in their sad bereavement. May he rest in peace.
