A trail of spilled milk left in the street by an automobile which killed a 15-year-old girl on North Grand boulevard at 6:45 a.m. today was the clue which an hour later led police to arrest the fugitive driver. Paul Steinlage, 20 years old, employed by his father, John G. Steinlage, owner of the Quality Dairy, 4630 North Florissant avenue.
Young Steinlage confessed according to Capt. William Tierney of Dayton Street Police Station, that he was driving the truck which killed the girl. Elba Reed of 3645 Dodier street. He had dozed at the wheel, he said, and did not realize what had happened until he was several yards beyond the spot when panic seized him and he decided not to stop.
Girl Hurled 15 Feet
Miss Reed was crossing Grand boulevard from west to east, on her way to work as a dining room maid at Mullanphy Hospital, when she was run down and hurled about 15 feet. Policeman found only a few bits of broken headlight glass and a trail of milk which extended for about 18 feet.
