She was born March 6th, 1916 in Zell, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine "Katie" (Schmelzle) Jokerst who both preceded her in death.
She married Oswald "Ossie" Flieg on January 2nd, 1945 in Zell. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son and daughter in law: Terry and Elaine Flieg of Kirkwood; a daughter and son in law: Karen and Bill Miller Jr. of Ste. Genevieve; a brother and sister in law: Leonard and Eileen Jokerst of St. Charles; a sister: Florence Kreitler of Ste. Genevieve; and two grandchildren: Annmarie and Evan Miller of Ste. Genevieve.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters: Thekla Meyer, Leona Jokerst and Lena Jokerst; and three brothers: Wilfred, Edgar and Gilbert Jokerst.
She was a member of the Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Tripoly Card Club.
She lived in the first house Oswald built in 1946. Maria was cared for the last five years by her loving family and caregivers. She loved gardening, flowers, and was a very talented quilter.
Maria was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who warmed everyone with her heart.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. this (Friday, December 22nd) evening at the Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve. The Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. The VFW Auxiliary will meet at 6:30 p.m.
A funeral for 90-year-old Maria C. (Jokerst) Flieg of Ste. Genevieve, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 23rd at the Church of Ste. Genevieve.
Burial will be in the Valle Spring Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to masses or to the Valle School Band.
