Sister Praxedes (Martha) Flieg, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Naeger) Flieg was born June 9, 1891. She was six years old when her mother died and four months later her father died when struck by lightning. She entered the convent at Ruma July 11, 1910, professed her first vows on July 16, 1912 and her final vows on July 16, 1918. Sister did housework and sewing for the Catholic Childrens Home in Alton, IL., and at St. Clements Hospital in Red Bud, IL. for fifty-four years. Sister passed away September 14, 1972 at the age of eighty-one and professed Adorer for sixty years. {Taken from the History of St. Joseph Parish-Zell, Missouri 1845-1995}

The four living children were given to close relatives. The oldest, "Richie" (Regina), age 8 years and 9 months, was given to Mr. & Mrs. Xavier Hoog. (Mrs. Hoog, the former Agatha Naeger, was a sister to the mother of the children--Elizabeth Flieg, nee Naeger) "Richie" later married Henry Zimmerman and became the mother of two children: Marie and Alphons. The second oldest, Martha, age 7 years and 11 months who later became Sister Praxedes, ASC, was given to Mr. & Mrs. Charles Trautman. (Mrs. Trautman, the former Theresa Flieg, was a sister of Henry Flieg, the father of the children.) The two youngest, Catherine, age 3 years and 8 months (later Sister Regina, ASC) and Rose, age 1 year and 10 months (later Sister Estelle, ASC) were cared for by their paternal grandmother, Mrs. Rosa (Joseph) Flieg, nee Hoog. A little brother, Fred, age 3 years, died in 1897, a year before the tragic incident described above. Both parents of these parents of these children died within a period of four months. "Richie" (Regina) died July 17, 1981; Sister Praxedes died September 14, 1972.
