Betty Gessner, 86, of 406 Lee Ave., Millersville died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 after a brief illness at ManorCare, Abbeyville Road, Lancaster. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha Grimm Roschel. Betty worked at Hubley Manufacturing and at the service desk for several local car dealers, retiring from Lancaster Nissan.

She was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. An avid Phillies fan, she also enjoyed playing cards, doing word puzzles, visiting and lunching with friends and especially enjoyed her great grandchildren.

Surviving is a son, Thomas husband of Rosalie Gessner; three granddaughters: Kimberlie wife of Mark Bennett, Shauna wife of Ricardo DelVillas, Stacie wife of Eric Bailey; four great grandsons, Joshua and Tyler Bennett, Ricky and Shane DelVillas; one great granddaughter, Jordan Bailey; a brother, Robert husband of Rosemary Roschel and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Yvonne, a sister, Jane Drybred, and two brothers, Kenneth and Frank Roschel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Mark Weiss as Celebrant. Friends may pay their respects to the family from 10-11:00 AM on Monday at the church. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in Betty's memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster PA 17604-4125.
