She was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Emma (Dittmer) Hoffmeier.
Mel was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and it's Altar Rosary Society.
She was a member of the Golden Hills Club, the Legion of Mary, the Guys and Dolls Club at St. Philip Catholic Church, the Millersville Senior Club, and the Park City Twalkers.
Mel was interested in various crafts, including oil painting, knitting, and crocheting and she was an avid walker - walking up to several miles each day.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Richard F. Fitzgerald, Sr. who passed February 06, 2000; her four sisters; and, her three brothers.
Mel is survived by her sons: Richard F. Fitzgerald, Jr., husband of Drue of Lancaster, Robert H. Fitzgerald, husband of Judith of Leola, and Gary L. Fitzgerald, husband of Jeanette of Mountville; her seven grandchildren; her eleven great-grandchildren; and, her great-great-granddaughter.
Viewing will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, February 23, 2018 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 St. Joseph Street, Lancaster.
Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
