Funeral services were held for Walter G. "Piggy" Scherer, age 85, on Thursday, July 18, 1985, at 10 am at the Church of Ste. Genevieve with Rev. Michael Ahrens officiating. Burial was in Valle Spring Cemetery with Stanton-Wood Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Scherer died July 15, 1985, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home. He was born May 16, 1900, in Ste. Genevieve, a son of the late Anton and Mary Thomure Scherer. He married Carrie C. Kreitler, who survives, on Nov. 11, 1926, in Ste. Genevieve.
Sons and daughters who survive include Anna Scherer, Norma (Mrs. Norman) LaRose, Norman Scherer, Joan (Mrs. Dick) Heob, Raymond Scherer, Carol Scherer, Kenneth Scherer, Barbara Scherer, all of Ste. Genevieve; Margaret (Mrs. Robert) Moll, St. Marys; Betty (Mrs. Bill) Boone, Weslaco, Texas; James Scherer, Perryville; Mary (Mrs. Vernon) Heck, and Edith (Mrs. Jewell) Harrison, both of St. Louis.
Other survivors include 21 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Scherer and a sister, Louise Bleckler, both of Ste. Genevieve.
Mr. Scherer was preceded in death by a son, Walter Scherer; and brothers Jack, Joseph, Bill, Oliver, Richard, Ernest, Emanuel; and a sister, Elvina.
