------------

Mrs. Catharine Bachman, former Slatington resident who at 96 years of age saw her lineage extend to five generations, died at 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carrie Peters, 438 N. Webster Ave., Scranton. She would have been 97 years old in July.

Until she moved to Scranton 20 years ago to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Bachman was a resident of Slatington and it is in that section of Lehigh county that she was best known. Her death yesterday was the result of the infirmities of her age, a condition confined her to bed for the last several years.

Born in Lynnport July 9, 1844, Mrs. Bachman was a young woman of 17 when the Civil War began. She was a daughter of the late David and Catharine, nee Wanamaker, Follweiler.
Her husband, Waltes Bachman, a slate manufacturer in Slatington, died in 1908.

Mrs. Bachman, one of a family of 11 children, reared a family of 11 children, eight sons and three daughters. During her married life she lived in Slatington.

Her descendants include, in addition to her children, 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great grandchildren.
She was a member of St. John's Reformed church, Slatington, and was active in its organizations. She was also keenly interested in music, an avocation she continued all through her life.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Peters, with whom she resided in Scranton; Mrs. Elmer Meitzler, Forty Fort; Mrs. Ida C. Noble, Allentown; five sons, William, St. Clair Shore, Michigan; George, Allentown; John, Morris and Warren, Slatington.

Three sons preceded her in death. They were the Rev. Irvin Bachman, former pastor of St. Paul's Reformed church, Northampton; Oliver and Oscar Bachman.

She was the last member of her family. A younger sister, Mrs. Hannah Seifert, of Allentown, died in November at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the home of her son John, 837 Main St., Slatington. Regular services will follow in St. John's Reformed church, 2nd St., Slatington. Interment will be in the Union cemetery, Slatington. The Rev. R. Maxwell Paine will officiate.
