Earl Downing
Earl Downing, operator of the general store at Pierce's Corners for the past nine years, died in the Hepburn hospital, Ogdensburg, early Sunday morning at the age of 52. He had been confined to the hospital for the past six weeks.
Mr. Downing was born in the town of Macomb, Aug 14, 1894, the son of La Martine and Cynthia Washburn Downing. He married the former Ruby Chapman in Lisbon. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. J. Bullock of the Wesleyan Methodist church on Oct 14, 1924. Following their marriage the couple established residence in Syracuse. In 1938 they moved to Pierce's Corners where Mr. Downing operated a store.
He was a Veteran of World War I, a member of the American Legion. Odd Fellows Lodge, Macomb Grange, and teh Musicians Association Local No. 374, Watertown.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruby Downing, one daughter, Miss Mary Downing, Syracuse; three sisters, Miss Ahlene Downing Macomb, Mrs. H. D. (Myrtle) Tann, Hammond, and Mrs. John (Wyena) Huntley, Watertown, two brothers, Ralph Downing, Macomb and Raymond Downing.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon with a prayer service at his residence in Pierce's Corners at 1:30 and at 2pm from the Methodist church. Rev. Frank Borwn, pastor of the Norfolk Methodist Church will officiate.
