Betty E. Alverson was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Macomb, a daughter of Ralph L. and Maude Harvey Downing. She was a graduate of Heuvelton High School and A. Barton Hepburn Hospital School of Nursing, Ogdensburg. She married Schuyler Alverson on July 11, 1947. The marriage ended in divorce.
Mrs. Alverson was a registered nurse at Potsdam Hospital and was the college nurse at Potsdam State University College until her retirement in 1991, after 27 years.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, where she served as missionary president and was an elected delegate to Upstate New York District Assembly of the Church of the Nazarene. She visited area homebound residents and cooked and baked for members of the church and the community.
