Cleve Griffin was born in Okolona, MS in 1920. He married Helen Neal Durham of Winona in 1942 and they had two sons, Thomas Cleveland Griffin (1944) and Robert Neal Griffin (1946). He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 which later became the United States Air Force. After pilot training, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. and piloted a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber with 29 successful missions over Germany during World War II. He became a career Air Force pilot and achieved the rank of Major.

Cleve's family accompanied him to many Air Force bases throughout the country including tours in Germany and England.

After his retirement, he returned to his hometown of Grenada, MS and was a business owner until his death from cancer in 1984.

He was a dedicated husband as well as a loving father who spent as much time as possible with his family.

Cleve was preceded in death by his parents R.C. Griffin, Sr. and Gertrude Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Helen Durham Griffin; his sons, Thomas Cleveland Griffin and Robert Neal Griffin; his granddaughter, Laura Griffin Faulkner, and one great-grandson, Griffin Faulkner.
