Joshua Andrew Akers, 20 of 1300 Meadow Woods Rd., Buffalo SC, died Monday, May 28, 2007.
He was born in Iredell County October 20, 1986, son of Timothy Wade Akers of Buffalo, SC, and Cheryl Karriker Lee of Statesville.
Joshua was an employee of Milliken Company's Gillespie Plant in Union SC. He was a 2006 graduate of North Iredell High School, and was very proud of that fact.
In addition to his parents, Joshua is survived by maternal grandmother, Bonnie Fink Hager, maternal grandfather William Karriker both of Statesville NC, maternal great grandmother Viola Karriker of Mooresville,NC brothers; Jonathan Wade Akers and wife Dani of Catawba NC and Jared Matthew Akers of Union, SC.
Also surviving is his stepmother Deborah, step brother Dean Yopp,step sisters; Ashley Pulliam and Misty Yopp,
step nieces and nephews; Jasmine Pulliam,McKenzie Yopp and Eric Knox.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Mr.& Mrs. Henry Akers.
Joshua's family received friends Thursday evening from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. A Celebration of his life was held at 11:00 am Friday,
in the Westmoreland Chapel with Dr. J.B. Parker, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Family was assembled at his grandmothers home, Bonnie Hager, at 2413 First Street at all other times.
Josh was a kind , thoughtful, helping and loving young man.
He always had a smile that would melt your heart and brighten your day. He always called me mom but there was no question that he loved his mom dearly. He felt like a son to me, became one of my best friends and he would confide with me about many things.
Joshua was proud of his dad and loved him dearly too. Tim unknowingly caught Josh's attention working on cars, trucks, and "Big Rigs",as it was said to me, "Daddy is a Master in the Shop but I just wish he didn't have to work so much".
In any plans Josh made he always thought about his brother
Jared from going out to eat to getting cell phones and he always worried about Jonathan, because of him being in the military, waiting for him to have a visit home so he could see he was safe.
Joshua was searching for life, love and independence yet was taken before his personal journey was completed.
I will miss him so very much. He and my daughter Amber were close friends and he and my son Alex were becoming good friends. Josh enjoyed skateboarding but his passion was Ford Mustangs. He owned one that he was in the process of restoring. He was so excited about getting that car ready and on the road. He wanted his dad to teach him the way around a shop so he could work on his Mustang but really never found the words to come right out and ask.
He loved listening to his music too. It was like an escape from the hectic world into his own relaxing state, if only for just a few short minutes.
Joshua was a free spirited and tender hearted young man that always put his friends wants and needs before his own.
My husband Bubba, and Joshua were close friends, Bubba helped Josh get his job at the Gillespie plant. They worked well together and became best friends. There's nothing that they would not have done for one another. Josh tried helping everyone he met;such determination for someone his age, it was remarkable.
At age 20, Joshua had such wonderful manners, his soft spoken words would draw you in wondering what special things he had to say. He always looked for the good in a person, never pondering on their flaws.
I know that along with my family and his, Joshuas fellow workers at the Gillespie Plant will truly miss him and
his beautiful smile that he passed around everyday.
