Jason Befort was born to Lois and the late Ken Befort. Jason was born and raised in Pratt Kansas. While growing up in Pratt, he became a high school all-star staring in football, basketball and baseball and track. Jason lettered in all sports his sophomore, junior and senior years. He was the starting quarterback his junior and senior year. While attending Pratt High School, he worked for Dillons and on the family farm. Upon graduating from Pratt High, he accepted a scholarship to play baseball for Pratt Community College. Due to injuries, his baseball career was cut short. After attending one year at PCC, Jason transferred to Kansas State University.

While attending Kansas State University, Jason joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity where he particpated on the house intramural teams. Balancing his school work, job at the Chester E. Peters Rec Complex, Jason graduated with a degree in secondary education.

After graduating from KSU, Jason began his teaching career in Augusta Kansas coaching and teaching at the junior high level. He coached football, girls basketball and track. He later moved on to coaching junior varsity basketball at Augusta High.
