Deputy dies
in chase crash
Juneau County sheriff's deputies
are trying to determine what went
wrong during a high-speed chase just
before midnight Friday that left a
deputy dead.
Juneau County deputy Rick Hous-
worth, 31, of Necedah, was killed
when his squad car left the road and
struck a tree about two miles north of
Mauston...
The department hired Housworth
last May. Before that he served as police
chief for the village of Necedah...

...At the funeral Tuesday morning at Hare
Funeral Home in New Lisbon, the Rev. Hec-
tor Bulldock said it was easy to come up
with the right words to describe Housworth.
He said the words were "honor, dedica-
tion and fidelity," adding that Housworth
was always available to help young people.
More than 200 law enforcement officials,
including representatives of the Army and
Navy, attended the services. Housworth
will be buried at a Necedah cemetery.
Housworth joined the Juneau County
Sheriff's Department last May after serving
as police chief in Necedah. He is survived
by his wife, Ruth, and seven children, the
department said. Mrs. Housworth is expecting
an eighth child, the department said.
