She was senselessly sexually-assaulted and strangled to death and was found behind a seniors-only apartment complex one block away from her home.

As of May 9th, 2020, her case is still unsolved, and as of 2014, $50,000 has been offered for information leading to her murderer's arrest.

Willie Alexander, former keyboard player and backup vocalist for The Velvet Underground, wrote "Who Killed Deanna?", a song about her death, which later appeared on his album "The East Main Street Suite" (1999).
