Son of William Alexander "Dub" Hale and Goldie Gwendoline Farmer.

Lt. Hale had been in Vietnam for 17 days when he died from fragmentation wounds to the head and body from a hostile explosive device while he was on patrol in Quang Nan Province.

He was platoon commander to Company I, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division.
