Funeral Set
For Monday
Funeral for Marine Lance Cpl. Arden E. (Scotty) Kersey Jr., 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Kersey of 1343 Beechwood, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elliott's Funeral Home.
There will be a Bible service Sunday at 8 p.m. in Elliott's Chapel of Memories.
Father George Conners will officiate at both services.
Kersey was killed in action June 13 in Quang Nam Province, south of Da Nang, in South Vietnam. He died of fragmentation wounds from an enemy explosion during a squad size combat patrol. He had been wounded in action twice before.
Born Aug. 25, 1949, in Amarillo, he moved to Abilene with his family in 1951 and graduated from Abilene High School in 1967.
Kersey attended Texas Tech University two years, then enlisted in the Marines last June. He had been in Vietnam since February.
Surviving are his parents; three sisters, Mrs. Ann Speller of Florida and Debby and Margie Kay, both of the home; two brothers, Jerry and Tom, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Eich of Randolph, Neb.; paternal grandmother, Mrs. J. E. Kersey of Grand Island, Neb.
