ENGLEVALE — Carol J. Brooks, 55, of Englevale died at 12:07 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at her home.

Mrs. Brooks was born May 18, 1956, at Yolo, Calif., the daughter of Charles Francis and Virgie M. Totman Black. Carol was a homemaker who was raised in Englevale and attended Beloit Schools. She was a lifelong Crawford County resident. She married Steven E. Brooks on Aug. 27, 1974, at Pittsburg, Kansas. Mr. Brooks preceded her in death. Survivors include four sons, Jamie (Michele) Walters of Pittsburg, Chris Brooks of Englevale, Shawn (Nikki) Brooks of Seymore, Mo., and Ryan Brooks of Englevale; a sister, Cheryl Schmidt of Lake Mont, Okla.; a lifelong friend, Mark Thomas of Pittsburg; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister, Mary Jane Black.

According to her wishes, Mrs. Brooks has been cremated. No services are planned. Family burial of the cremains will be at a later date at the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
