Andrew was found on the 1850 census in Conecuh County, Alabama. According to the obituary of his brother, Jesse Hobbs the family moved from Alabama to Matagorda County, Texas in 1852 with their widowed mother and some of their siblings. He had moved to Gonzales County, Texas, by August 4, 1856, as that was when he married Malinda Finch.

According to the 1880 census, Andrew was a farmer. Andrew last appears on the census in 1900 as a widower who is a boarder in the home of Thomas H. Ivy in Gonzales County.

Andrew and Malinda had four children: Charles, Adeline, John and Dock. Charles is buried in Boerne, Texas.
