Gen. Alison Succumbs To Ailment Here – Veteran of War Between the States Will Be Laid to Rest Today
Gen. Jacob S. Alison, 86, of Benton, died at 9 p.m. Saturday in a local sanitarium after an illness of several weeks duration.
The funeral services will be held at the home of a son, T. D. Alison, 380 Albany Avenue, at 3 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Jasper K. Smith and the Rev. F. K. Horton officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park under direction of Roll Osborn funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be: E. P. Alison, Sidney Adger, Jr., Jack Hayes, John C. Hayes, Jack McIver, Edward McIver, E. J. Downey and Dan Logan.
Mr. Alison was born at Carlowville, Ga. [sic], May 1, 1847. He enlisted in the Confederate forces at the age of 16, serving under Gen. Joe Wheeler in Company I, Third Alabama Cavalry. He moved to Louisiana after the war, residing for a time in Red River, DeSoto and Caddo Parishes. He moved to Bossier Parish about 25 years ago. He was active in the work of the United Confederate Veterans, having attended practically all of the annual encampments. He attained the honorary rank of general when named a member of the staff of Gen. L. W. Stephens of Coushatta, when General Stephens was commander of the U.C.V.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lula Youngblood Alison; two sons, T. D. Alison, Shreveport, and H. J. Alison, Benton; three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Nettles, Coushatta; Mrs. Clyde Williams, Mansfield, and Mrs. Sidney Adger, Benton; and two step-daughters, Mrs. J. C. Hayes and Mrs. S. J. Allen, Shreveport.
