Ms. Alex Rae Tye Lyttle, age 74, of Barbourville, passed away on Thursday evening September 3, 2009 in the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was the daughter of the late Wheeler Tye and Mary Hester (Mays) Tye Ewing, born to them on August 21, 1935 in Knox County.

Alex Rae was an Administrative Assistant for the Appalachian Research & Defense Fund of Kentucky, Inc., a Member of the First Baptist Church, the Knox County Cancer Fund, the American Cancer Society, President of the Tanyard Cemetery Association, and she also helped with the Polly Jones Cemetery Association, and was an avid UK fan.

She was preceded in death along with her Parents; by her beloved Step-Father: Brice Ewing; Her former Husband: Kelly Lyttle; and by many other loving Relatives.

Alex Rae is survived by her special loving Cousins: Jean (Jim) Worthington and Family of Van Wert, Ohio; Nekita Tye Barjon of Ridgeland, Mississippi; Vernora (Mouser) McCants and Husband, Sam of Akron, Ohio; Walter Joe (Pee Wee) Mays of Van Wert, Ohio; Kevin Bowen of Williamsburg; and a host of special Cousins; Her Special Friends: the Wallace family of Barbourville; Janet Pittman of Barbourville; Her Church family at First Baptist Church; and the Appalahian Research & Defense Fund of Kentucky, Inc.

Funeral Services for Alex Rae Tye Lyttle will be conducted on Monday, September 7, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. A. H. Daniels Officiating. Burial will be in the Tanyard Cemetery. Those serving as Pallbearers will be: Robert North, C. Pittman, Jack Brown, Elandon Hughes, Rick Washington and Lloyd Pillay. Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: John Rosenburg, Larry York, Warren Keller, the Office of the Knox County Circuit Court Clerk Greg Helton, Legal Services of Prestonburg, Doctors and Staff at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, and Ann M. Hopper and Staff at the Hopper Funeral Home. The Lyttle family will receive friends on Monday at the funeral home from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour of 3:00 P.M
