BECKHAM GARLAND 97 of Bimble was born September 23 1902 in Knox County and passed away Sunday July 16, 2000 at his home.

He was the son of the late Perry Garland and Ida Townsley Garland.

On April 19 1930 he united in marriage with Sydna Allen Garland she preceded him in death on October 1, 1997. Five children were born to this union.

He was one of the first members of the Knox County and International Gideons Bible Camp. He was a graduate of Barbourville Baptist Institute Union College and Lincoln Memorial University and was a retired school teacher of 37 years.

He was the owner and operators of Beckham Garland's General Store for 42 years. In 1960 he founded G&M Oil Corp of Barbourville. He served as Knox County Master Commissioner. In 1991, he was inducted into the 5th District Lincoln Club Hall of Fame.

Survivors include one daughter Marie Mills of Heidrick; three sons Frank Garland and wife Irene, Jakie Garland, Jerry Garland and wife Kathy, all of Bimble; one sister, Rose Cole of Dewitt; one brother, James Lewis Garland and wife Lenore of Heidrick; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday July 19 at 2 p.m. at the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church at Bimble with the Rev. Sylvester Dunn and the Rev. James Mooneyham officiating.

He was laid to rest in the Hawn Cemetery at Bimble.
