JAMES "JIM" EDWARD BAKER - OLD TOWN, 49, passed away peacefully at his home with his much loved family and pets. He was born in Old Town, July 2, 1951, the son of Clarence "Bud" and Marjorie (Howes) Baker. Jim graduated from Old Town High School, Eastern Maine Technical College and attended the University of Maine at Orono. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who always looked forward to hunting season and spending time in the woods. He recently started enjoying golfing, RV camping with his family at local Maine campsites and sitting outside enjoying nature. In his early years, Jim was a member of the Orono Police and Fire Departments and the Penobscot County Sheriffs Office. Currently, he was employed as the maintenance supervisor for the City of Brewer, Wastewater Treatment Plant for the past l5 years. Another of Jim's passions was his service in the Boy Scouts of America, Katahdin Area Council, where he was an active member for 4l years; most recently he served as an assistant council commissioner. Recently, Jim was received into the Catholic Faith, which made him even more peaceful at the time of his death. Jim is survived by his wife of l7 years, Margaret (Connors) Baker; three daughters, Jaime-Lynn Baker of Palmyra, Carol Jessica White and her husband, "Bub" , Samantha Marie Downs and her husband, Joey of Old Town; one son, Eric Preston Jones and his wife, Janelle of Milford; his four perfect grandchildren, Keith James and Sara Margaret White, Allyson Kayla Jones and Michael Austin Downs; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Richard May and their children, David, Michael and his wife, Mandy. At his request, there will be no visiting hours. A casual celebration of his life will take place this Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the home of Richard and Carol May, 10 Oak St., Old Town. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family or the Old Town Animal Orphanage, P.O. Box 565, Orono, Me. 04473. Arrangements by Birmingham Funeral Home, Old Town, Maine.
