Carlos Alberto Valeta Vallendor, born on February 14, 1954, in Uruguay, was a former student of Stella Maris School in the Carrasco neighborhood of Montevideo. Although not engaged in rugby, his life took an unexpected turn when his friend Gustavo Zerbino, with whom he shared studies at the Faculty of Medicine, invited him on a trip.

Tragically, Carlos Valeta passed away on October 13, 1972, at the age of 18. He was among the passengers ejected from the plane when the tail broke upon impact with a mountain. Amidst the chaos of the wreckage after the accident, survivors spotted Carlos Valeta in the distance.

Despite their desperate attempts to get his attention and urge him to join them, Carlos's silhouette suddenly fell and disappeared from view. Survivors tried to reach him, but challenging weather conditions and the depth of the snow hindered their efforts.

Carlos Valeta's family showed support by attending the press conference held by the survivors upon their arrival in Montevideo, emphasizing solidarity in the midst of the tragedy.
