A deplorable accident, the first since
the great mill has been built, occurred
at the Nekoosa paper mill last Tuesday
morning at about one o'clock. Mr.
Charles Doherty, one of the hands of
the night crew, was in the act of start-
ing the paper into the rollers of one of
the great machines when his left hand
was caught in the machinery and the
entire limb drawn between the heavy
rollers up to the body and then literal-
ly wrenched out of its socket. The
young man lived but twenty minutes
after the occurrence of the accident.
Deceased was a young man about
twenty-two years of age, and had but
a few days before been added to the
crew. He was what is termed a tramp
paper maker. His home was at Penn
Yan, Yates county, New York, where
he leaves a widowed mother to mourn
his death.
The remains were laid to rest in
Calvary cemetery on Thursday fore-
noon, the entire expense of the inter-
ment being borne by the Nekoosa
Paper Co.
