Killed at Nekoosa.
Nekoosa Times: — A most shocking
accident occurred at the Nekoosa paper
mill Monday evening, resulting
in the death of Peter Brada seven
hours later.
Mr. Brada was an employe of the
wood room, his position being known
as tail sawyer, whatever that may
mean. He had just returned from sup-
per and before starting to work began
oiling his machine. There was no eye
witness to the accident and how it
happened is all conjecture. Whether
he fell or whether his clothing was
caught by the belt is not known. When
picked up he was in a crouching posi-
tion, with his head on the floor and a
great hole mashed in the back of his
head, under the left ear, besides which
one arm was broken and other minor
injuries inflicted. He was unconscious
when picked up and remained in
that condition until he died. Physi-
cians were summoned at once, but in
vain. As soon as they saw the wound
back of the ear they shook their heads
and told the fellow workmen gathered
around that recovery was impossible.
However, they had him removed to his
home where they labored until after
1:00 o'clock Tuesday morning in the
hope they might be able to save his
life. But at 1:40 the spirit took its
flight.
Mr. Brada was born in Russia-Po-
land in 1878, therefore was thirty-five
years old. He came to America after
he had reached manhood and had lived
in Nekoosa seven or eight years. He
was married and leaves besides his
widow a family of five children, all of
whom are too small to be of assistance
to their mother in the matter of earning
a livelihood.
