Carol Lynn Burks was the daughter, sister, granddaughter and aunt we never met but who has always been loved and remembered. She was the first child of my parents Arn and Tillie Burks.

According to my Gramma's 1956 diary, my parents announced in mid-April that they were expecting in November. Complications with Mom's pregnancy began in September and she spent a lot of time bed-resting. On October 14 Dad took Mom to the hospital at 11:00pm and, sadly, Carol was stillborn at 11:30pm.

Carol was buried on October 16, 1956, with her dad, grandmother Hilda Burks, uncle Larry Burks, grandmother Minnie Vidlicka and grandfather Mickey Vidlicka attending the small service. Her mother, still in the hospital, and her grandfather Ernest Burks, laid up with back problems, were there in spirit. Family friend and funeral director Hank Grammer kindly and lovingly took care of the arrangements. Her grave marker was placed five years later, shortly after I was born.

Mom came home from the hospital on October 18, and my parents began to heal. They eventually resumed building our family: my brother Greg, myself and my sister Laura.

Carol is the the posthumous aunt of Brandon Burks, Samantha Burks and Olivia Covey.

Carol has always been in our hearts, missed, an important part of the family -- and she always will be. ILY, Carol, and look forward to hugging you in Heaven one day. xo
