James Reditt McCaslin was born in 1803, in Middlesex Township , Butler Co. Pa. to parents James McCaslin (1772-1856) and Elizabeth Evens(1779-1844.
James married Mary Foreman(1814-1905) sometime before 1839 in Middlesex Township. Like James' forbearers, he and his wife settled in Middlesex Township at the family homestead that consisted of about 100 acres that James farmed.
He and Mary had ten children -- one girl and nine boys. Two twin sons died at birth and daughter Janie died at age eleven years. The rest of their family grew and lived to a good old age except Samuel, the youngest, who was killed in the oil fields by a gas engine.
The children were: The Twins, Andrew, James Foreman, John H., David Henderson, William Charles, Jane Amelia, Mitchell F., and Samuel Newton.
James died on April 16, 1869 just three months shy of his 66th birthday. He is laid to rest along side his wife Mary in Middlesex United Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Corner of Rte. 8 & 492, Middlesex Twp., Butler Co., PA.
