A Polish/Russian immigrant.
They married in 1910 & he was killed in a coal mining accident, a cave in, in late 1923 or (very early 1924). We were always told that he was "crushed by a lump of coal".
He died in either Barnesboro or St. Benedict & is buried in one of the 2 towns.
Father of Mikolaj, Mary, Joseph, Thomas, & Stanley, who was born after his father's death.
There has been much confusion as to his first name. His WWI Draft record, Pennsylvania marriage records, & US Census records refer to him as "Mike". His name was Mikolaj (Polish version of Nicholas) but Americans & the way they shortened names, used creative spelling, etc., at the time, turned Mikolaj into Mike.
Thanks so much to Juel for sponsoring this page. She is a real sweetheart & a terrific friend!
