Deceased Name: George C. Kirby

ROCKBRIDGE - George C. Kirby, 86, of Rockbridge died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at Prairie Village Health Care in Jacksonville.
He was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Rockbridge, the son of Harry and Hazel Gray. He married Grace Elmore in 1945 in Wood River; she preceded him in death.
Mr. Kirby was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1939-45, and was at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. He retired as a cabinet painter from the Shop of Schmidt and was a member of Carpenters Local 1596.
Survivors: daughter, Renee Kirby of Lincoln; and son, Richard Kirby of Springfield.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Shields Memorial Home, Greenfield. Burial: Witt Cemetery, Rockbridge.
