Helena was born January 15, 1910, in Tiffin, Ohio, to George and Ida (Nigh) Hostler. She was an 81-year member of First Baptist Church and the Amoma Bible Class. Helena retired in 1953, after 25 years of service, from DeJongs Department Store. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, Robert Morris Chapter No. 87 and of the White Shrine, where she was a Past Worthy High Priestess. Helena was also a charter member of Amaranth and of the Pink Ladies at Welborn Baptist Hospital. She moved to Cadiz, Kentucky, several years ago to be closer to her family.
She is survived by her grandson and his wife, John J. Jr. and Arlene Groeninger of Lawrenceville, Ga.; great-grandson, his wife and great-great-grandson, Jason, Jennifer Cyran and Grayson Groeninger of Norcross, Ga.; great-grandson, his wife and great-great-granddaughter, James, Candace and Barbara Groeninger of Fresno, Calif.; great-grandson, Paul Groeninger of Lawrenceville, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Rebecca Groeninger of Lawrenceville, Ga.; granddaughter-in-law, Catherine Jones Groeninger of Cadiz, Ky.; great-granddaughter-in-law, Tammy Jones of Cadiz, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, William Eddie Keene in 1988, her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and John Groeninger, a grandson, Steven Groeninger, her sister, Mary E. Doench, and her brother, Leroy Hostler.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, with the Reverend Dr. George Huffsmith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
