Dora Hopkins married George Perry Hughes in 1883 in Alabama. They moved to Proctor, Comanche County, Texas, as listed in the 1900 census there. The 1930 census shows them living in Beaumont, Texas. Dora and Perry were the parents of nine children.

After Perry died in Beaumont in 1933, Dora moved to Mansfield, Louisiana, where she lived until her death from heart disease at Fraser Clinic in Many, Louisiana. Her funeral service was held at the Highland Avenue Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas.
