Funeral services for Houston R. Burns, 65, of Leesville, Louisiana were held Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the First United Pentecostal Church in Leesville, Rev. Bud Davis, Rev. Mark Christian and Rev. M. C. Green officiated. Burial followed in the Mitchell Cemetery in Anacoco.

Houston, the son of David and Pearlie Burns, was born July 29, 1947 in Pineville, LA. He passed away Wednesday, July 3rd, at the Rapides Regional Hospital in Alexandria, LA.

Houston was a true man of integrity; he was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and his wife's "Best Friend". He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends running Walker Hounds. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ludie, Dick, Louise, William, Wilamae, Franklin Delano, Gladys, Lawrence and Gracie.

He served in the US Army as a SGT in Vietnam. In 1999 he retired from the Vernon Parish Sheriff Office after 17 years. After his retirement from VPSO he worked as an investigator for the Louisiana State Penitentiary, and then later worked as an International Policeman in Kosovo. Upon his return from Kosovo, he worked with FEMA in Quality Control. In 2008 he returned back to the Vernon Parish Sheriff Office where he worked as a part-time deputy until his passing.

Houston is survived by his wife of 13 years of Leesville; three sons and one daughter-in-law; two daughters and one son-in-law; one step-daughter of Anacoco; brother of Mamou, LA; sister and brother-in-law of Virginia; fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Services are under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville.
