Roger D. Edwards entered this world on November 3, 1948 to Alvie and Lula Edwards of Flatwoods and departed this world on Friday, August 12, 2011. Services for Cpl. Edwards were Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria, Father Jose' Robles Sanchez officiated. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Roger leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 40 years, Lou Edwards of Gardner; sons, Delton Edwards and wife, Janet of LaCamp and Chris Edwards and wife, Jennie of Gardner; three grandchildren, Morgan Edwards, Dalton Edwards and Dakota Edwards and one great grandson, Weston Edwards all of LaCamp. His mother, Lula Edwards of Gardner; sisters, Billie Brown of Deville, Bernadine Hunley of Gardner, Rosemary Chanelli and husband, Ralph of Stanford, Connecticut and Linda Thomas and husband, Tracy of Shreveport; three brothers, Alton Ray Edwards and wife, Emily of Dracut, Massachusetts, Dewey Edwards and wife Doris of Alexandria, Ken Edwards and wife, Cathy of Daytona Beach, Florida. Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles cousins and other family members as well as friends.

Roger is preceded in death by his father, Alvie Edwards; paternal grandparents, Tobe and Bessie Edwards; maternal grandparents, Louis and Clemence' Paddie.

In 1969, Roger went into the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and served in Germany until 1971. After being out of the service for awhile, Roger joined the Army National Guard in 1991 until 1993. Roger was stationed at Camp Beauregard in Pineville. In 1986, Roger went to work for the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office under Grady Kelly and retired in 2006 with 20 years of service to the parish under William Earl Hilton. He served his country and people of this parish proudly. Roger will be honored with a Military/Rapides Parish Sheriff's Department Service.

He was a vivid outdoorsman that loved hunting and fishing and being outside with his sons and grandchildren. He was a very loving, caring husband, father , grandfather and father-in-law to his wife, sons, grandchildren, great grandson and daughters-in-law.

Honorary pallbearers were Delton Edwards, Chris Edwards, Morgan Edwards, Dalton Edwards, Dakota Edwards and Weston Edwards.

Memorials may be made to the Children's Shriner's Hospital, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
