Musician, Songwriter. A guitarist, he was a prominent member of The Charlie Daniels Band from 1975 to 1989. The Nashville native began his career, initially as a member of the local group Buckeye before joining The Charlie Daniels Band, as they were entering their most productive period commercially. Their signature hit "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" (1979, which Crain co-wrote) successfully crossed-over from the Country to the Pop Charts reaching number 3 while achieving platinum status and receiving both a Country Music Award and a Grammy Award. Further Top 40 hits followed with "In America" (1980, reaching number 11), "The Legend of Wooley Swamp" (1980, reaching number 31) and "Still in Saigon" (1982, reaching number 22). Crain departed in 1989 to spend time with his family, but later experienced a musical resurgence as leader of his own group Tommy Crain and the Crosstown All-Stars.
